In 2001, the federal government, through its Infrastructure Canada Program and the National Research Council, joined forces with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to create the National Guide to Sustainable Municipal Infrastructure. The guide is both a new, national network of people and a growing collection of published reports for use by decision-makers and technical personnel in the public and private sectors. Based on Canadian experience and research, the reports set out the best practices for municipal infrastructure delivery in six key areas: municipal roads and sidewalks, potable water, storm and waste water, decision-making and investment planning, environmental protocols and transit. To date, 16 best practices have been published including six dealing with road issues that will be presented in this session. Visit www.infraguide.ca for more information on the guide.

En 2001, par l’entremise du programme d’Infrastructure Canada et du Conseil national de recherches du Canada, le gouvernement fédéral a décidé de collaborer avec la Fédération canadienne des municipalités à la création du Guide national pour des infrastructures municipales durables. Ce guide repose à la fois sur un nouveau réseau national d’intervenants et sur une collection croissante de rapports que peuvent consulter les décideurs et le personnel technique des secteurs public et privé. Fondé sur l’expérience et les recherches du Canada en la matière, les rapports préconisent les meilleures pratiques concernant les infrastructures municipales et ce, dans six grands domaines : routes municipales et trottoirs, alimentation en eau potable, traitement des eaux pluviales et usées, prise de décisions et planification des investissements, protocoles environnementaux et transports en commun. À ce jour, 16 synthèses de meilleures pratiques ont été publiées, dont six qui ont trait aux routes et qui seront présentées à la faveur de cette séance.
