INNOVATIVE
TRANSPORTATION FINANCING FOR SUSTAINABLE CITIES (PANEL DISCUSSION)
MÉTHODES INNOVATRICES DE FINANCEMENT DES TRANSPORTS DANS
LES VILLES « DURABLES » (TABLE RONDE)
Chair / Président : Doug Floyd, Vice-president, DELCAN
Corporation, Toronto
Municipalities in Canada have a reported $57-billion infrastructure
deficit. Moreover, there are substantial needs for additional annual
operating and maintenance funds for both roads and transit. A different
approach to funding urban transportation operations and infrastructure
is therefore required, particularly if municipalities are to attain
sustainability objectives being promoted by all orders of government.
This panel will explore current innovative financing approaches
from the perspective of large and smaller municipalities. A representative
from Infrastructure Canada will also provide an update on the infrastructure
funding programs available from the federal government.
