NEW HIGHWAY SAFETY MANUAL: IMPLICATIONS FOR GEOMETRIC DESIGN (PANEL DISCUSSION)
NOUVEAU MANUEL DE SÉCURITÉ ROUTIÈRE – INCIDENCES SUR LA CONCEPTION GÉOMÉTRIQUE (TABLE RONDE)
Chair / Président : Sany R. Zein, President, Opus Hamilton Consultants Ltd., Vancouver
This panel discussion considered the implications of the upcoming U.S. Highway Safety Manual for Canadian geometric design practices. Once released, the manual, which is currently being prepared by the Transportation Research Board, will be a major reference document that quantitatively links geometric design characteristics to safety performance. This may significantly change how design decisions are made. Panelists explored the content of the manual and how Canadian designers may need to factor it into their decision matrices.
