This workshop will address the critical issue of what skills and knowledge transportation engineers will be expected to have in 2020. The basic premise is that the transportation field is undergoing continuous changes in technology, financing, communications, environmental requirements, climate change adaptations, administrative and governance structures, information, globalization, market characteristics, human resources, management tools and the need for sustainability in all its forms. Accordingly, it is important for both the private and public sectors to be able to respond to this changing world in a wellplanned, forward-thinking and effective way. Having transportation engineers with the appropriate skill sets is fundamental to meeting the challenge of change.

Cet atelier traitera de l’enjeu important des compétences et du savoir que devraient posséder les ingénieurs des transports en 2020. L’hypothèse de base tient au fait que le domaine des transports est l’objet de changements continus dans les disciplines suivantes : technologie, financement, communications, exigences environnementales, adaptation aux changements climatiques, structures d’administration et de gouvernance, information, globalisation, caractéristiques des marchés, ressources humaines, outils de gestion et besoin de durabilité sous toutes ses formes. Conséquemment, il est important pour les secteurs privé et public d’être en mesure d’intervenir dans ce monde changeant en appliquant des mesures bien planifiées, avant‑gardistes et efficaces. Pour relever le défi du changement, il est primordial de pouvoir compter sur des ingénieurs des transports possédant le bagage de compétences voulues.
